Position Description: Dietician (Paediatric & ASD experience)

About Irabina

For over 40 years, Irabina Childhood Autism Services has been making a positive difference to the lives of children and families living with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Irabina provides services to over 200 families of children from the time of diagnosis. It is a not for profit organisation that is governed by a board of directors.

We are currently seeking an Experienced Psychologist to provide services within the context of a trans-disciplinary model, to deliver specified outcomes for children with autism. It is anticipated that you will have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in Psychology; some of this must be working with children with autism.

This will include providing individual sessions with children, delivering parent education programs and workshops to families and professionals, working in Irabina’s holiday programs as required, and conducting diagnostic, educational, and cognitive and other assessments.

RESPONSIBLE TO: ROLE: To assume the role of a Dietician in a trans-disciplinary team of professionals supporting children with feeding disorders and their families. The role is profession specific, and the role includes activities such as:  

  • Provide high quality Dietetic Service to children experiencing feeding difficulties.
  • Participate in Feeding Clinic activities, including staff and clinical meetings, business planning and quality activities as required.
  • To perform the duties of this position efficiently to the standards of Irabina Autism Services.
  • Actively resource and liaise with associated agencies and practitioners within the Irabina Autism Services and the Community.
  • Undertake required administrative functions including documentation and statistics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform appropriate nutritional assessment and intervention for patients in designated areas.
  • Document patient assessment, management and progress in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate the provision of special dietary requirements for Feeding Clinic patients.
  • Deliver and evaluate patient education, either individually or in groups.
  • Develop, evaluate and update dietary education resources.
  • Develop protocols and procedures according to evidence based practices.
  • Attend regular multidisciplinary team meetings, case conferences and team meetings as appropriate.
  • Identify and use community resources appropriately.
  • Undertake required administrative functions including documentation and statistics.
  • Reviews, formats and maintains accurate client records.
  • Maintains accurate statistical records and reports as required by Irabina.

Clinical Leadership

  • Provide secondary consultation and support to Irabina staff to support best practice.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities.

Key Performance Indicators:
  1. Staff and Clients
  2. Clients and families demonstrate satisfaction with performance as measured through 12 monthly satisfaction surveys of the Organisation (specific to the department, not clinician).
  3. Feedback on performance and behaviour will be provided regularly through the PDR process, in accordance with Irabina’s Values and Behaviours. High levels of satisfaction with performance are expected.

Key Selection Criteria



  • Bachelor of Science (Nutrition and Food Science) plus Post-graduate Dietetic degree or equivalent qualification.
  • Current membership with the Dietitians Association of Australia with Accredited Practicing Dietitian status.
  • Experience working in paediatric settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to appropriately apply Evidence Based Practice and dietetic knowledge to patient management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the capacity to interact with a broad range of clinical service providers.
  • High level negotiation, conflict resolution and problem solving skills.
  • Commitment to providing services to people from diverse language/cultural backgrounds.
  • A current and valid Working with children check and a Police Check.
  • Current driver’s license.


  • Relevant experience working with clients with Autism Spectrum Disorders and associated conditions.
  • Proficiency in a community language would be an advantage.
